Jessica Chastain wiki and pics

Jessica Michelle Chastain is an American theater, film and television actress born March 24, 1977. Chastain played guest roles in several television shows before making her feature film debut with the 2008 independent film Jolene. In 2011, Chastain gained wide public recognition for her starring roles in seven film releases. Her performance in The Help received rave reviews and earned her several accolades, including a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, as well as Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. In the military thriller film Zero Dark Thirty, she won the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama and received her second consecutive Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
In 2012, Time magazine featured her as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World".[4] Chastain's performances in Zero Dark Thirty and in the 2013 horror film Mama led film critic Richard Roeper to describe her as "one of the finest actors of her generation".[5]

 Early life and education

Chastain was born in Sacramento, California. She was raised by her mother, a vegan chef, and her stepfather, a fireman. She is close to her grandmother Marilyn, who attended the Oscar ceremony with her in 2012 and 2013.
She graduated from El Camino High School in Sacramento in 1995[12][13] and attended Sacramento City College, where she was a member of the debate team (1996–1997).[14] In 1998, she appeared as Juliet in a production of Romeo and Juliet staged by TheatreWorks,[15] a professional theater company in the San Francisco Bay Area. Chastain then attended the Juilliard School in New York City as a member of the Drama Division's Group 32 (1999–2003), which also included Michael Urie and Jess Weixler.[16] The funding making it possible for her to attend was provided through a scholarship by Robin Williams. She was an active participant in the drama department and starred in several theatrical productions and student film projects. She graduated from Juilliard with a B.F.A. degree in 2003.

Career

 2004–2009
Shortly before her drama school graduation, Chastain attended a showcase for final-year students in Los Angeles, and was promptly signed to a holding deal by television producer John Wells.[18] She relocated to California, took up residence in Venice Beach, and started auditioning for jobs. Facing early difficulty in even getting auditions for roles, she recalled that "being a redhead and not having very conventionally modern looks, it was confusing for people and they didn't know exactly where to put me."[19] In her television debut, The WB network's pilot remake of the 1960s gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, she portrayed Carolyn Stoddard, who was originated by Nancy Barrett.[20] Directed by P. J. Hogan, the pilot did not live up to the network's expectations and the series was eventually not picked up for broadcast.[20] Chastian later appeared in a guest stint on the medical drama series ER, which marked a professional watershed as she subsequently found a niche playing eccentric characters in television.[19] "I did a job on ER as a psychotic woman, and after that got a lot of jobs in TV where I wasn't the normal one," she later said. "I played a lot of girls who had something off. Maybe they'd been the victim of some horrible accident. Or they were crazy."[18]
From 2004 to 2006, she also appeared in television series such as Veronica Mars, Close to Home, and Law & Order: Trial By Jury. She then was cast as the female lead in a production of Salome, playing at the Wadsworth Theatre, also starring director Al Pacino. The success of the play, which sold out after getting positive reviews, helped bring her to the attention of several casting directors.[18] In 2008, she made her film debut as the title role in Dan Ireland's drama film Jolene. The movie was based on the short story Jolene: A Life by E. L. Doctorow, itself inspired by Dolly Parton's song "Jolene", and follows title character's life over the course of ten years, as an abused 15-year-old foster child up until her life as a 25-year-old woman.[21] While the drama received mixed reviews, Chastain was generally praised for her performance, with New York Observer noting that she "not only holds her own corner of every scene, she's the only thing you want to watch."[22] It was later released in the United States on October 29, 2010 and won Chastian the Seattle International Film Festival Award for Best Actress.
In 2009, Chastain appeared in Stolen, a mystery–thriller film directed by Anders Anderson. It was universally panned by critics and not released as video on demand and in a limited theatrical release until March 2010.[23] The same year, she finished work on the British period drama series Agatha Christie's Poirot, playing Mary Debenham in a full-length adaption of Christie's 1934 novel Murder on the Orient Express.

 2010–2011

In 2011, Chastain showed a wide variety in her roles, including: Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life and the crime thriller Texas Killing Fields.[25][26]
Chastain's biggest commercial success of 2011 was The Help, which was based on Kathryn Stockett's novel of the same name. The movie received positive reviews from critics and became an immediate box office hit grossing $169,620,611 in North America, and $35,700,000 in other territories, as of February 2, 2012, for a worldwide total of $205,320,611. Chastain's performance received praise from critics, and gave her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination, which she lost to her co-star Octavia Spencer. Chastain continued to receive rave reviews for her performance in the 2011 film Take Shelter playing the wife of a small town man plagued by apocalyptic visions.
In John Madden's drama-thriller film The Debt, she portrayed a young Mossad agent sent to East Berlin in the mid-1960s to capture a former Nazi doctor who carried out medical experiments in concentration camps.[27] Chastain shared her role with Helen Mirren, both actresses portraying the character at different phases of her life.[27] The actresses worked together before shooting started, creating a consistent voice and mannerisms for their character, while Chastain also took classes in krav maga and German, and studied books about Josef Mengele and Mossad history to prepare herself for the film.[27]
Premiering at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2010, the movie was released on August 31, 2011 and Chastain received positive reviews from critics and viewers. The movie went on to become a moderate box office hit. On November 29, 2011, Chastain announced as New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in The Help, Take Shelter and The Tree of Life as well as gaining an Independent Spirit Award nomination the same day for her performance in Take Shelter. On December 1, 2011, she received a Satellite Award nomination as best supporting actress for her performance as Mrs. O'Brien in The Tree of Life, she went on to win the award and many other honors from critics including the: National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Supporting Actress.
 2012–present
Chastain starred as Virgilia in the adaptation and Ralph Fiennes's directorial debut, Coriolanus, which was released in January 2012 and was met with generally positive reviews from the critics.[28] In the animated film, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, she voiced Gia the jaguar with an Italian accent, the film was released on June 8, 2012 and received generally positive reviews from critics.

Chastain has also completed a film adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Salome alongside Al Pacino. She was featured in John Hillcoat's prohibition era drama, Lawless.[30]
In April 2012, Chastain entered the list of Time 100 most influential people of the world.[4] She was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in June 2012 along with 175 other individuals for 2012.[31] The same month, Chastain was named the ambassador of the new Yves Saint Laurent fragrance, called Manifesto. The fragrance was released in August 2012, Chastain stated: "Yves Saint Laurent is a brand that inspires me deeply. Since its creation, the brand has conveyed strong values that I cherish, such as an unwavering commitment, absolute love and feminine audacity. This new fragrance is an emblem of it all. I am [excited] to be part of this beautiful adventure."[32]
In 2012, she appeared in Tar as C.K. Williams' mother. She reunited with Terrence Malick in the romantic drama film To the Wonder, but her performance was later cut from the film.[33] In early 2012, Chastain was reported to star in two action films, Oblivion and Iron Man 3, but dropped out which she confirmed the latter in her Facebook account.[34][35] Chastain was also offered for the role of Princess Diana in the upcoming biopic film Diana but dropped out and was replaced by Naomi Watts. She then starred as the lead in Kathryn Bigelow's action thriller film Zero Dark Thirty, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.[36] In 2013, she played the lead role, alongside Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, in Andres Muschietti's horror film Mama (2013), based on Muschietti's 2008 Spanish-language short film, Mamá.[37] With the release of Mama and Zero Dark Thirty, Chastain became the first woman in 50 years to have the leading role in the top two movies at the box office.[38] Also in 2012, Chastain made her Broadway debut in a limited-run revival of The Heiress, playing Catherine Sloper. The play ran on Broadway, at the Walter Kerr Theatre from November 1, 2012 to February 9, 2013, the original final performance having been canceled so she could attend the BAFTAs.[39]
It was announced that Chastain would play the female lead and title character in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby opposite James McAvoy. The film is about a two-part drama told from his and hers perspectives, set to hit theaters in 2013.[40] It was announced that Chastain will play the lead and title role in Miss Julie, a film adaptation of August Strindberg's play, being directed by Liv Ullmann.

 Personal life

Chastain is a vegan[42] and has said about her vegan lifestyle: "I don't want to torture anything. It's about trying to live a life where I'm not contributing to the cruelty in the world. While I am on this planet, I want everyone I meet to know that I am grateful they are here." She currently lives in NoHo, a neighborhood in Manhattan, with her dog Chaplin, a three-legged rescue dog.[43] She has been romantically linked to Gian Luca Passi, an Italian-born executive for French fashion brand Moncler.

Jennifer Lawrence wiki and pics

Jennifer Lawrence wiki and pics

Jennifer Shrader Lawrence is an American actress born August 15, 1990. Her first major role was as a lead cast member on TBS' The Bill Engvall Show (2007–2009) and she subsequently appeared in the independent films The Burning Plain (2008) and Winter's Bone (2010), for which she received nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Satellite Award, Independent Spirit Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. At age 20, she was the second-youngest actress ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. At age 22, her performance in the romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012) earned her the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, Satellite Award and the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress, amongst other accolades, making her the youngest person ever to be nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Actress and the second-youngest Best Actress winner.[4]
Lawrence is also known for playing Raven Darkhölme / Mystique in the 2011 film X-Men: First Class, a role she will reprise in X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014. In 2012, she achieved international recognition starring as the heroine Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, an adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel of the same name. Her performance in the film garnered her notable critical praise and marked her as the highest-grossing action heroine of all time.[5][6] Lawrence's performances thus far have prompted Rolling Stone to call her "the most talented young actress in America."[7] In 2013, Time named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.[8]

Early life

Lawrence was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Her parents are Karen (née Koch), who runs a children's camp, and Gary Lawrence, who once owned a concrete construction firm, Lawrence & Associates. She has two older brothers, Ben and Blaine.[9][10][11] She acted in local theater[12] and, by the age of 14, had decided to pursue an acting career, persuading her parents to take her to New York City to find a talent agent. Prior to finding success in Hollywood, Lawrence attended Kammerer Middle School in Kentucky. She graduated from high school two years early with a 3.9 average in order to begin a career in acting.[9][13] While growing up and in between acting, Lawrence served as an assistant nurse at the children's summer day camp that her mother ran.

Career

2006–09: Early work
Lawrence has never taken any drama classes or lessons for acting.[9] She started out her acting career in the TBS comedy The Bill Engvall Show, playing Lauren Pearson, the eldest daughter. Written and created by Bill Engvall and Michael Leeson, the show is set in a Denver suburb and follows the life of 'Bill Pearson' (played by Engvall), a family counselor whose own family could use a little dose of counseling. The series went on the air in September 2007 and was canceled in 2009 after three seasons. Lawrence received the Young Artist Award for Outstanding Young Performer in a TV Series for her role in the show.
Lawrence had guest-roles in the television series The Devil You Know, Cold Case, Medium, and Monk.[15] In 2007, Lawrence auditioned for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight, however the role went to Kristen Stewart. Later, Lawrence stated that she was "glad" that she had not received the role because of the massive media attention that Stewart received from the role.[16][17]
In 2008, she appeared in a small role in the film Garden Party as Tiff. It was directed by Jason Freeland. The same year, Lawrence appeared on the big screen in Guillermo Arriaga's film directorial debut The Burning Plain, opposite Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger. Her performance in the film earned her the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best young emerging actor/actress at the Venice Film Festival in 2008.[18]
Still in 2008, Lawrence had the lead role in another film director's debut, Lori Petty's family drama The Poker House, opposite Selma Blair and Chloë Grace Moretz, where she starred as Agnes, a young girl victim of abuse.[19] Lawrence was awarded the Los Angeles Film Festival Award for Outstanding Performance for her role in the film. She appeared in the music video for the song "The Mess I Made", from the 2009 album Losing Sleep by Parachute.

2010–12: Breakthrough

Lawrence's lead role in Debra Granik's Winter's Bone, which won best picture at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010, is generally cited as a breakout performance for her.[20] She portrays Ree Dolly, a seventeen-year-old in the Ozark Mountains who cares for her mentally ill mother and her younger brother and sister. Ree then discovers that her father put their house and land up as a bond for a court appearance before he disappeared, and the family now faces eviction.[21] The performance was highly acclaimed by film critics. David Denby, writing in The New Yorker, said "the movie would be unimaginable with anyone less charismatic playing Ree."[22] Peter Travers from the Rolling Stone also spoke highly of her and noted that "her performance is more than acting, it's a gathering storm. Lawrence's eyes are a roadmap to what's tearing Ree apart".[23] Receiving accolades for her performance, Lawrence was awarded the National Board of Review Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. She received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress on January 25, 2011, becoming the third-youngest actress to date to be nominated for the category,[24] and also accrued nominations from the Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Satellite Awards among others.
Lawrence appeared in The Beaver, a dark comedy starring Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson. The film was shot in 2009, but spent an extended period of time stalled due to controversy. It was released on May 6, 2011. She also co-starred in the independent film Like Crazy, which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.[25] The following year, it was announced that Lawrence was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In March 2011, Lawrence was offered the part of Katniss Everdeen in the film The Hunger Games, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins. Despite being a fan of the books, Lawrence took three days to accept the role because she was initially intimidated by the size of the movie and what it may mean for her fame.[26] She underwent extensive training to get in shape for the role, including stunt training, archery, rock and tree climbing, combat, running, parkour, pilates, and yoga.[27][28] The film was released on March 23, 2012, and set the record for the third-largest opening weekend of all time, making a record-breaking $152.5 million in three days for a non-sequel film.[29]
The fact that The Hunger Games emerged as a big box office hit with a female lead represents a dramatic shift for the action film genre because historically, among the "top 200 worldwide box-office hits ever ($350 million and up), not one has been built around a female action star" and for the first time ever, Lawrence contradicts that.[30] Forbes stated "No one who has seen The Hunger Games would question star Jennifer Lawrence's ability to play an action star."[31] She is currently the highest grossing action heroine ever.
Though the film generally received positive reviews, Lawrence's portrayal of Katniss Everdeen was the most highly praised with Todd McCarthy from The Hollywood Reporter saying Lawrence embodies Katniss, "just as one might imagine her from the novel" and "anchors" the whole film "with impressive gravity and presence", ultimately calling her "the ideal screen actress".[32] Kenneth Turan from the Los Angeles Times stated that Lawrence is the "best possible performer as Katniss and is the key factor in making 'Hunger Games' an involving popular entertainment with strong narrative drive that holds our attention".[33] Chicago Sun-Times film critic Roger Ebert also agreed that "Lawrence is strong and convincing in the central role"

In June 2011, she starred as shape-shifting villain Mystique alongside James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in X-Men: First Class,[35] a prequel to the rest of the X-Men film series. Lawrence's Mystique is a younger version of the character played by Rebecca Romijn in earlier X-Men films. Lawrence will reprise the role in the 2014 sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past.[36] She also starred alongside Max Thieriot and Elisabeth Shue in Mark Tonderai's thriller House at the End of the Street,[37] which was released in September 2012.[38] She was originally cast to play "O" in the film Savages directed by Oliver Stone, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
In November 2012, Lawrence played the recently widowed Tiffany Maxwell in David O. Russell's Silver Linings Playbook, an adaptation of the novel of the same name, by Matthew Quick, opposite Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. She received widespread critical praise for her performance in the film, with Richard Corliss of TIME Magazine writing, "The reason to stay is Lawrence. Just 21 when the movie was shot, Lawrence is that rare young actress who plays, who is, grown-up. Sullen and sultry, she lends a mature intelligence to any role... Jennifer Lawrence is the silver lining in this mostly ordinary playbook."[39] Peter Travers of Rolling Stone also wrote that Lawrence "is some kind of miracle. She's rude, dirty, funny, foulmouthed, sloppy, sexy, vibrant and vulnerable, sometimes all in the same scene, even in the same breath. No list of Best Actress Oscar contenders would be complete without the electrifying Lawrence in the lead. She lights up the screen."[40] She won the Academy and Golden Globe awards for best actress for her performance.
2012–present: Upcoming projects

In 2012, Lawrence replaced Angelina Jolie in Susanne Bier's depression-era thriller, Serena, based on the novel of the same name by Ron Rash.[41][42] She will be playing the role of an unstable woman named Serena who learns that she can never bear her husband children and is set out to murder the woman who bore her husband an illegitimate son before their marriage. On September 10, 2012, Lawrence began working on the film adaptation of the second novel in the The Hunger Games trilogy, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which is scheduled to be released on November 22, 2013.[43]
In October 2012, Lawrence was announced as the new face of Dior.[44] She ranked No. 1 on AskMen's list of Top 99 Most Desirable Women for 2013.[45]
In 2014, Lawrence will be reprising her role as Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. On February 15, 2013 it was announced that Lawrence will star opposite Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams in American Hustle about the ’70s FBI sting operation Abscam.[46] She will also be starring in her third collaboration film directed by David O. Russell titled The Ends of the Earth.[47]
Lawrence will play Jeannette Walls in the film adaptation of Walls' best-selling memoir The Glass Castle.[48] Lawrence will reprise her role of Katniss Everdeen in the film adaptations of the final Hunger Games book; The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is set to be released on November 21, 2014. Part 2 is set to be released on November 20, 2015.

Personal life

Lawrence lived in New York City for the first few years of her career, but now resides in Santa Monica, California.[9] She dated British actor and X-Men: First Class co-star Nicholas Hoult from 2011 to 2013.[49] Regarding her personal life, Lawrence has stated, "You don't want your relationship to be in the press, but at the same time, and this is only a theory, the more you try and keep it secret, the more the media tries to crack it open."
